affordable health and safety

A little about how we got started…

EB Safety Group was founded in response to the growing need for competent health and safety consultants in the UK. The company has since grown into a leading provider of health and safety services to businesses of all sizes in the East of England.

1993 - Local safety groups share resources and merge

Due to the expansion in the late 1980’s property boom, it became apparent that a larger group of safety experts was needed in East Anglia, Three local safety groups (The Beds & Herts Safety Group, The Cambridge Building Safety Group and the Central Essex Building Safety Group) merged, offering a wider range of services. In 1996 the group moved to a new HQ in Cambridge.

1998 - More regulation for the construction industry

Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) affects all businesses and organisations whose employees use lifting equipment, whether owned by them or not. In most cases, lifting equipment is also work equipment so the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) also apply (including inspection and maintenance).

EBSG plays an essential role in East Anglia, helping to implement these regulations (which many saw as needless red tape), improving safety dramatically.

asbestos risk assessments

2002 - Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations

Initially, back in 1985, the first asbestos prohibition laws were introduced and the UK banned the import and use of blue (crocidolite) and brown (amosite) asbestos.

Asbestos was used extensively in house buildings before the UK banned its use in 1999, and on 21st November 2002, the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations was introduced. It still has a big impact on refurbishment and demolition works.
